Spring Clean-up

The first week of Aerification is complete! Greens and Tees have been aerified and the Fairways will be attended to starting Monday morning.

Its been a long week but I wanted to talk about spring clean-up. Usually I would not make a post in regards to this but considering the Rochester area had a severe wind storm in March…I thought I would take the time to show our progress.

The picture below depicts the amount of debris on the greens this year.

A typical “spring clean-up” on any golf course is ensuring the grounds are clear of debris. Various mowers are used throughout the course and anything other than Turf is not recommended when mowing (Turf joke). Leaves, branches, etc all need to be attended to each year to create a proper growing environment for turf and to protect our equipment from unwanted damage.

Cleaning the course up this year has taken a little longer than usual but we are making progress. The month of March certainly threw a curve ball but nothing a little dedication and time can’t fix.

An outside company has been hired to complete removal of damaged trees. Approximately 50 trees were affected by the storm…29 of which were completely up-rooted.

Spring weather has brought upon higher rainfall amounts this year. Enough to halt progress on most days. The course is getting there and thankfully Greens, Tees, and Fairways were not severely damaged.

Once the trees are removed. Our crew cleans up any excess debris that remains.

Once all trees are attended to…stump grinding will begin. Up-rooted trees left giant pot holes which will receive new soil and sod. Seed will be applied to various areas that were weakened by downed trees and branches.

Enjoy the weekend!
