A typical day.

When I inform someone that I work on a golf course …the usual response is….”So, What is it exactly that you do?”

Well, today I took the time to document exactly what we did. Which is more or less a typical day.

A typical day is a mowing/set-up assignment first thing in the morning…followed by miscellaneous  detail work/projects for the remainder of the day.

The use of a white board is a great and simple tool to relay assignments to the crew. Below was today’s morning assignments.

What does it all mean?

Greens=Mow All 18 Greens plus practice and nursery green(s)

Collars= The area that surrounds the green. “The Fringe”

One-pass=The next cut above the collars. “The Intermiediate Cut”

Approaches= The area just before the green. Same height of cut as collars but lower than Fairway height.

Fairways=Mow all 18 Fairways (26 acres).

Blow Fairways= Blow off excess grass “clippings” left behind from the fairway mowers.

Fairway Intermediate= The cut around the Fairways.

Driving Range/Practice Tee= Mow practice area and then fill in divots from day before with seed/soil.

A chemical/fertilizer application goes out at least 2-4 times a week and this morning bunker/green surrounds were the focus. Growth Regulator and Herbicide were used.

Growth Regulator: Stunts plant growth

Herbicide: Attacks unwanted plants “weeds”

Rough and Surrounds= Mow all that remains! Takes a few days…impossible to finish in one morning.

Clubhouse blow/flowers= Blow/pick up debris/garbage around clubhouse. Water flowers

When the crew was off on their way…I turned on the irrigation around our clubhouse for the first time this year. And of course…holes to be dug and pipe to be fixed.

This has been a problem area so over 100′ of pipe will be replaced by the end of the week. Woo.

All of these assignments are completed ahead of the morning golfers. Rough mowers are the exception.

This was a typical Monday, Wednesday, Friday mowing routine. Start at 6a.m and the majority finish between 9a.m-11a.m

But thats just the morning….

Here was this afternoon’s assignments.

Line trim areas that mowers can not reach. “Detail work”

Stumps to be picked-up and filled continues!

And I mentioned in previous blog about attacking moss on Greens. Well I dabbed them again today…and the moss is starting to feel the punch from 7 days ago.

Day 1:

Day 7:

Woo results…but still have to follow through.

That was a big sum up of the day but there is much to do on a 150+ acre office.

Thanks again.
