August has arrived.

I thought I’d share some information on water usuage throughout the golfing season.

Today was the first time we needed to turn on the well pumps that replenish our irrigation ponds.

Yes! First time!

I took the time to compare this year to last year. And what a difference…bare with me.

From April to end of July this year: 23.14inches

In 2016, the same time frame: 8.65inches

Last year…keeping the ponds full was in short…impossible. Irrigation would run day/night and the wells could barely keep up even with the added city water line.

In 2016 our max refill capability was  330,000 gal.

Average overnight water usuage: 250,000 gal. Which is cutting it close. Water usuage was reduced significantly because you have to play the game of how much water can we afford to buy/evaporation/ground in take/water areas that could get away with less or none…droughts are not fun.

This year: A well has been beefed up  and our refill capabilty is now 570,000 gal a day and if we needed to turn on the city water line its an extra 100,000 gal.

This year irrigation has not been used much but with high rainfall/high temps/high humidity that creates a more suitable environment for turf diseases. But again, thankfully it has been a cooler year…take a look.

2016: 22 days above 90

2017: 0 days above 90.

Average: 9 days above 90.

One extreme to the next.

Total water usuage in 2016: 11 million gallons.

So far in 2017: 1.6 million gallons….should be around 6-7 million at this point compared to last year.

I could go on but I thought I share some data from these two extreme years.

Enjoy the week!
